One of baseball’s greatest managers teams up with his wife to rescue animals in need.

Tony La Russa is one of the winningest managers in baseball history; third on the all-time list. He led the Oakland A’s and St. Louis Cardinals to six pennants and three World Series championships.
After nine years, he has recently come out of retirement to once again manage the White Sox, the first team he led, from 1979-86. He’ll likely move up to number two this summer, passing John McGraw and trailing only Connie Mack.
La Russa’s on-field accomplishments are many, but almost as well-known is his work with his wife Elaine in providing homes for abandoned and injured animals.
Fascinating. You never know where life will lead you or if you will recognize opportunity when it is presented.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Look at me: I thought I was gonna be an visual artist when I grew up.
ReplyDeleteYay to TONY & ELAINE for helping animals! Some famous people who are known for their charitable works concerning animals are BOB BARKER and BETTY WHITE. DORIS DAY was also really big on helping animals. P.S. I didn't watch it but did you see the sports movie Doris did with RONALD REAGAN? It was titled THE WINNING TEAM. CLASSIC TV FAN
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends has a therapy dog. She takes him to hospitals around Manhattan and something about his presence soothes patients and puts them at ease. He’s quite popular, and having met him a couple of times, I can attest to his friendliness.
ReplyDeleteI know about THE WINNING TEAM. I’d like very much to write about it here at some point.
