Baseball manager Leo Durocher met Hollywood actress Laraine Day in 1942. They were married to other spouses at the time, yet they fell in love.
He divorced in 1943. By 1946, once she obtained a divorce from her husband, bandleader and airport manager Ray Hendricks, she was ready to wed Durocher.
They would have to jump through a number of hoops first.
Laraine Day is never seen in this household without Garry mentioning Leo the Lip. You can count on it, like night following twilight.
ReplyDeleteHave I seen any Laraine Day movies? H'm. Laraine is one of my Desperate Housewives of Film Noir in a not great but interesting picture called Without Honor, 1949. The Locket is her most fascinating character. Her final onscreen work was guesting in a two-part Murder, She Wrote as the grandmother of Courteney Cox.
Paddy! Thanks for joining me. I feel like I’ve just moved in a new apartment and I’m entertaining my first guest. As you can see, I haven’t completely given up writing about movies. I have a post about Joe E. Brown in the works.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never seen Day in anything though I would like to watch FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT at some point. What I read about THE LOCKET for this post sounded interesting.
I saw LARRAINE DAY in MR. LUCKY with CARY GRANT. It was a different kind of role for Cary and he played the part well but I thought the movie was kind of boring. I saw Larraine on that MURDER, SHE WROTE ep and also on eps of WAGON TRAIN and HOTEL. On Hotel she played the grandmother of guest star KATE VERNON. I like the work of MISS VERNON. She is the daughter of talented actor JOHN VERNON.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to put my handle CLASSIC TV FAN.
ReplyDeleteI think three out of every four old Hollywood stars wound up on MURDER SHE WROTE eventually.
ReplyDeleteKATE VERNON did two episodes of MURDER, SHE WROTE and JOHN did one. I really like the second one Kate did. It is titled ALMA MURDER and has guest stars JASON BEGHE, DANA SPARKS, RALPH WAITE, E.G. MARSHALL, JANICE RULE and DINAH SHORE! Kate will be 60 in April. Do you know the work of KATE and/or her dad? CLASSIC TV FAN
ReplyDeleteKate Vernon’s name didn’t register until I remembered her from a recent popular and controversial STAR TREK fan film. Didn’t know she was related to John Vernon.
